My family and I are most grateful for this remembrance of the brave men and women of Yarmouth, including Herbert Loran Smith of Port Maitland.

I was pleased to visit the memorial in the summer of 2013 . This is a wonderful tribute to the seafaring people of the Yarmouth area . The sea took away so many loved ones . There are 10 of my family (Morrell ) listed .We can only imagine what it was like for those getting the news at home . Thank you for this reminder of what a busy Port Yarmouth was and the men and women who gave their lives working far away .

With heartfelt thanks in recognizing my great-grandfather, James Cole, who perished in November 1900 in the City of Monticello disaster.
Not knowing what happened to his remains, this memorial gives meaning to his existence and I appreciate it deeply. Thank you, again.

I was very pleased when a few years back it was decided to erect this fitting memorial in our community. It is a beautiful addition to our waterfront and much praise to everyone who helped in any way on this project.

Not until the day of the official unveiling did I learn my own family was touched by losses at sea. It turns out I have 5 family members whose names are among those on the tablets. Since then my father has been able to give me quite a bit of detail about each one and the circumstances surrounding their deaths.

This has turned out to be an eye-opening experience for me, about my own family.

I just wanted to say what a lovely event this was to attend. It really brought it home, even to an outsider along for a visit, just how the livelihoods of these men and their sorrowful ends impacts not only the families but the community as a whole.

I was fortunate to sit beside a lovely French Acadian lady, Pauline Rodgerson. Not only did I make a new friend at the event, she introduced me to the songs and speeches by sharing stories and interpreting songs as they were ongoing, quietly in my ear. It was a precious experience, with even a few tears running down my cheek.

I am so proud of your community and what they have come together to commemorate those cherished men and boys lost to the sea all those years. This honors not only their death but those also left behind. Thank you so much for sharing this event and special hugs to Pauline and to the Perry's for having me there! :)
